Air New Zealand Engineering and Maintenance Hangar Tour

The Aerospace Christchurch committee were thrilled to receive an invitation from Mark Hobson, Manager, Customers – Commercial at Air New Zealand to undertake a tour of the Air New Zealand Engineering and Maintenance Hangar at Christchurch Airport on June 30, 2020. Air New Zealand is a major supplier of aircraft, and component MRO services with customers in New Zealand, Australia, Asia, the Americas and Europe. Their facilities offer experienced technical design services for wide-body, narrow-body and regional aircraft in the civil and defense markets.

Upon arrival, we were given a thorough safety briefing (we didn’t need anyone going rogue!). With our hard hats and high vis vests on, we were all set to head over to the hangar to see where the magic happens! For those of you who have not had the pleasure of walking through an operational commercial airline hanger, I can tell you the sheer scale of the place just about takes your breath away. Seeing these magnificent machines up close and personal was extraordinary! The committee were particularly interested and impressed with the following equipment and capabilities that are on offer within the facility:

+ Large composite oven

+ Heat treat oven

+ Composite facilities

+ Laser wire marker

Thank you to Mark Hobson and his team for hosting us. Your facilities are super impressive and diverse. We all enjoyed ourselves, learnt some very interesting facts and gained some insights into what it takes to successfully run an operation of that scale.

If you or your company are interested in acquiring further information on the range of equipment, products and services available, do get in touch with Mark Hobson.
